The Mystery of Santa Claus Revealed!

Santa Claus is:

  1. a master of speed and stealth. On a single night he visits every house in the world, leaping from one rooftop to the next. He evades every state of the art security system, is undetected by military radar. When children stay up all night to get a glimpse of him, and can't help but close their eyes for a few seconds, by the time they open them again they've already missed him.
  2. a master contortionist. He can move effortlessly through tight spaces--chimneys and the like, despite his towering stature and bulk.
  3. a master of disguise. During the month of December he visits every mall and thousands of parties in America in his own clothes, yet everyone is convinced that it's not the real Santa, and some even suspect that he's their uncle Bob.
  4. a master of mind control. Your parents are not Santa. Santa has every mom and dad in the world convinced that they're doing his job for him when they're really sleeping. And you thought you were so smart when you thought you figured it out.
  5. Has been known to battle martians.
So what does that make Santa Claus?

Six Gun Gorilla

I did not make this character up. This may be the first fan drawing of Six-Gun Gorilla in seventy years. I found out about this cowboy gorilla from an article posted on io9.com a couple months ago. If you didn't just click on that link you should, and learn a bit about the Six-Gun Gorilla's history. It's worth a read. And the cool thing is that ol' Six-Gun is now in the public domain, so you never know, there may be a movie in the works by the director of a certain short film about a pink rabbit.

Invader

Invader of Earth? Or invader of personal space?

Portrait of a Chicken

I drew this while at work the other day. It's a portrait of one of our chickens. She's a Rhode Island Red breed hen, named is Red Sonya. And yes, she is named after that silly 80s fantasy movie.

Jumper

So I walk upon high,
And I step to the edge,
To see my world below.

A bit of somber verse from everyone's favorite Soulful Collective puts us in the mood for this week's drawing. This one was originally drawn for Draw Something for my sister-in-law Erin for the word "BUNKBED."

Here is the original Draw Something:

Somehow, I like the original better. What do you think?

To sword fighters who wear pajamas, and helpful elves.

This first drawing is inspired by the first Doctor Who episode starring David Tennet called "The Christmas Invasion". In the climactic scene (spoilers) the new Doctor wakes up from his regenerative coma only to wind up in a sword fight with a menacing alien on top of a space ship that is hovering a mile above London while still wearing his pajamas. When I saw this episode I was excited by the prospect of a Doctor that wore pajamas and got into sword fights, but sadly this was the only instance of both things ever occurring. Still, this drawing is dedicated to all those pajama clad sword fighters out there.

I remember a story I heard during my childhood about a cobbler, or shoe maker, and some elves who go about some nocturnal activities. Ah, here it is. Anyway, what if those elves are still around, eh? And what are they up to now that there aren't really any shoemakers anymore?

Short Movie

A brief film I made one Saturday afternoon using items found in the house. I shot, edited, and shamelessly added special effects using only the phone. The fridge artwork was drawn by my roommate and the proprietor of the house, James. And I must give a shout out to the ghost of Jim Morrison. Sorry for using your song. I thought it fit. But the good news is if someone follows the link to the actual youtube page they can find a link to buy an MP3 file of the song so that, even though you are dead, Jim, the people who own the rights to your music can still make money and everyone is happy. Except, of course, for the pink rabbit in this movie.

Watch . . .

First post in which I share some of my drawings.

I started drawing on my phone using an App called SketchBook Mobile for iPhone. So far this has been one of the best uses for my phone that I've discovered so far. I've been interested in creating digital art for a while now but until now have barely dabbled in it. These are my completed drawings so far:

Early drawing. Wanted to draw someone who looked like Geddy Lee. I didn't have a picture of  him in front of me and this is what I came up with.

Inspired by the many corporate meetings I must attend as part of my job. For the background I used an App called Space Paint which despite being limited in it's scope is probably the most fun photo editor app I've played with.

That's it for now.
